Question Description

Write about your Assistive technology device experience. The device I am using is the foot mouse**

Based on the HAAT model: Human (H), Activity (A), and Assistive Technology (AT), students (H) are to identify a minimum of one significant activity (A) they routinely complete in their daily life. Students are then required to select and use a type of disability-related Assistive Technology (AT) for a minimum of one full week on their designated activity (A) and write a minimum 3 full-page critical summary on their experience and answer specific questions about the AT. Students may choose any disability-related technology they wish, however the technology must require some level of skill to use (i.e., requires time to learn, train, become proficient). To facilitate this assignment, students may access technology by using one of the following methods:

  • What is the purpose of this technology?
  • Which population(s) of individuals with disabilities would this technology be appropriate for?
  • What is the cost? Assume an individual does not have much money. How would this technology be funded?
  • How much time is required for training?
  • How would this technology facilitate greater independence at work, home, school, or in the community?
  • What are potential social(e.g., stigma) and/or cultural issues with using this technology.
  • Does this technology need to be compatible with other objects within the environment? (e.g., software, hardware, etc.)
  • Describe your minimum 1-weekexperience using the technology.
  • How much time daily did you spend using the technology?
  • Note: Use of the device should be significant, and not just a few minutes each day.
  • What activity(ies) did you complete using the technology? And in what context?(e.g., home, school, work, community)
  • What are the product’s strengths and limitations?
  • What is your overall impression after using the technology? And, would you recommendthis for patients, clients, customers? Why or why not?
  • Overall conclusion summarizing the points above.
